The NT writers correlated a number of passages in the Book of Psalms to matters associated with the First and Second Advent of Christ. These citations were in keeping with the references that Jesus had made to the Psalms concerning Himself. In one of His post-resurrection appearances to the eleven apostles and those gathered with them, He had said: “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses, and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me” (Luke 24:44). He then opened up their minds to understand the Scriptures (v 45). The chart above sets out in a chronological order some of the references in the Psalms the NT writers associated with the life of Christ.
