Good Enough for Me

March 23, 2017 by Shawn Lazar in Blog

I’m the kind of person who overthinks things.

There’s about three or four thousand books in my home library that can attest to that (not counting the books in my office library). And if my wife is reading this, yes, I need them all!

But I’m learning to go back to basics.

I’m learning to check myself, especially when it comes to reading the words of Scripture.

I recently read a comment from someone poking fun at the idea of eternal rewards, and claiming the Bible teaches no such thing.

Well, Jesus said:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:19-21).

Call me crazy, but it sure sounds like there’s going to be treasure in heaven and there’s no guarantee I’m gonna get any, unless I store some up there.

And then in Luke 19:11-21, the Parable of the Ten Minas, Jesus concludes with this:

“The first appeared, saying, “Master, your mina has made ten minas more.’ And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave, because you have been faithful in a very little thing, you are to be in authority over ten cities.’ The second came, saying, ‘Your mina, master, has made five minas.’ And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities’” (Luke 19:16-19).

Again, call me simple minded, but it sure sounds like Jesus is rewarding these fellows for what they did, and their rewards are not equal.

That’s good enough for me.
