Did You Know That the NT Authors Confirmed the Historicity of OT Miracles and Events?

The Bible is under attack in many Bible colleges and seminaries today. Many of the OT miracles are explained away.

Here are some OT accounts that are regarded by many Bible scholars as historically doubtful, but that the NT authors in their epistles treated as actual history:

  • Eve’s being deceived by a talking serpent in the Garden of Eden (2 Cor 11:3; 1 Tim 2:14).
  • Job’s being a real person with a real story (James 5:11).
  • The worldwide Flood (1 Pet 3:20; 2 Pet 2:5; 3:6).
  • Daniel and the lions’ den (Heb 11:33).
  • The three men in the fiery furnace (Heb 11:34).
  • The fall of Jericho, when the walls fell after being encircled for seven days (Heb 11:30).
  • Elijah and Elisha raising the dead (Heb 11:35).
  • The 3.5-year drought due to the prayers of Elijah (Jas 5:17-18).
  • The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Jude 7).
  • The parting of the Red Sea as God brought the Israelites out “with a strong hand” (Acts 13:17; compare Exod 6:1, 6; Ps 136:12).

Many modern Evangelical Bible scholars consider many of these incidents to be non-historical. They never happened.

Many modern Evangelical Bible scholars set themselves in opposition to the teachings of the NT epistles. Of course, they have clever ways of making their rejection of Biblical history seem reasonable. Many young men and women end up being duped. Instead of growing in their faith via Christian higher education, many experience grave doubts and even spiritual shipwreck.

God’s Word is living and powerful (Heb 4:12). May we remain steadfast in asserting its truthfulness.

Keep grace in focus and you will not forget that God is the author of myriads of miracles.
